Tower of Babel

La Torre de Babel

After the great flood, people began to fill the earth again. At that time, everyone spoke the same language. People traveled east and found a plain in the land of Shinar where they decided to settle. They said to each other, 'Let's make bricks and build ourselves a city with a tall tower that reaches to the heavens. We will make a name for ourselves and won't be scattered across the earth.' The people were proud and wanted to be great without God. They worked together building the tower higher and higher. But God came down to see the city and tower they were building. God said, 'If they can do this while speaking one language, nothing will be impossible for them. They will become too proud.' So God confused their language. Suddenly, people couldn't understand each other! The builders couldn't work together anymore because they spoke different languages. They stopped building the city and scattered across the earth into different groups. That's why the place was called Babel, which means confusion. This story teaches us that pride leads to confusion, but humility before God brings unity.
